The Academic Value of Acting

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) recognizes the rigour involved in high-level acting. To pass a Grade 6, 7, or 8 Acting exam, a student must demonstrate deep character analysis, vocal precision, and physical control. Because of this high standard, these "Medal" levels are included in the UCAS tariff system.

UCAS Points Breakdown for LAMDA Acting

Points are awarded based on the Grade and the result (Pass, Merit, or Distinction). A Grade 8 (Gold Medal) Distinction in Acting carries 30 UCAS points—equivalent to a significant portion of an A-Level.

What Does the Exam Involve?

For an Acting exam at Dreams, students prepare monologues or duologues. They are assessed on their ability to interpret a script, maintain a believable character, and use their voice and body to tell a story. In the higher grades, there is also a "viva voce" (oral exam) where they discuss their acting theory and character research with the examiner.
